Captain William Fell was involved with FCA during his college years at the U.S. Naval Academy, and now as he serves FCA’s NYC chapter, he has the opportunity to serve as a Christian role model for the Midshipmen who participate in FCA at the USMMA.
A three-year member of the U.S. Naval Academy football team, Fell played for the 1984 U.S. Military/Combined Services Select Rugby Team, and captained the 1986 USMC Rugby Team. He also served as the USMMA football assistant coach 2005-2007, boxing head coach 2006-2008, women’s softball assistant coach 2008-2011 and as assistant coach for the 2008 USMC Rugby Team.
Fell graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the USMC. During his 20 years of service with the USMC (retired, lieutenant colonel), Fell was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal, three Navy and USMC Commendation Medals and a Navy and USMC Achievement Medal.
Following his USMC service, Fell was appointed Assistant AD for Physical Fitness and Club Sports at the USMMA. He later served as Deputy Commandant of Midshipmen position and then Interim Commandant of Midshipmen. In June 2009, he was selected as USMMA’s 16th Commandant of Midshipmen. Since 2011, he has served as COO of Athletics at the USMMA, which sponsors eighteen NCAA Division III sports teams.
Fell received his BS in Management and Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Troy State University. He also earned a certificate in Sports Management from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics’ Sports Management Institute.
In 2013, Fell was the recipient of the Capt. James Liebertz Memorial Award, given annually by the USMMA Director of the Physical Education and Athletics to a member of the USMMA community who exemplifies the traits of dedication, perseverance, enthusiasm, and love of USMMA Athletics. Captain Fell and his wife Deborah have three children Kimberly, Billy and Jeffrey.
